In this post, we want to show your options on the strategy layer. Lord Commander, your decisions in town will have a huge impact on your abilities in combat. Gold is always scarce and you must make tough decisions how to best spend it. Make sure your troops are well-prepared for the upcoming challenges.
As the Lord Commander, you command the order’s men. One of the most important things you will be doing on the strategy layer is managing your roster of heroes and soldiers to prepare them for the upcoming challenges.
The Mission Board
The Mission Board shows all known incidents that have been scouted. You can assemble a team of heroes and embark on a mission to deal with various threats. Foul creatures will invade our lands, terrorize the local population, claim your lands, abduct important persons or even dare to create bridgeheads in your realm.
The mere sight of these monsters will cause panic in your lands, some foes will leave a path of terror behind that requires quick actions from your side. It is in your own interest to keep panic low: farmers who are panicking or being driven out of their lands will not pay taxes which consequently reduces your weekly income.
The Tavern
In the Tavern, you can hire additional heroes to join your order. Every day, new heroes and soldiers will offer their services. Heroes come with random skills and will require gold to recruit. There are many different hero classes available, ranging from heavily armored warriors, ranged combat specialists to magic users. In addition to humans, elven warriors who have been driven out of their lands will become available.
We will soon provide more details about the individual playable classes and their skills in a future post. Subscribe to our newsletter our follow us on Twitter to stay in the loop about future updates.

Hire new heroes and soldiers in the Tavern. Everybody who can hold a sword, fire a bow or cast useful spells is more than welcome.
Having a healthy amount of heroes in your roster is important. These are dangerous times. People die or get seriously injured and you don’t want to put all your eggs into one basket.
The Sanctuary
I’m sure you will do your best to save your men from being killed but a lot of times, you cannot prevent some members from getting injured. Don’t fret, the Sanctuary is a holy place where our heroes can rest and recover lost strength. Others will have to step up while they take a much needed rest.
The Shop
You cannot only rely on your weapons and armor alone. The shop offers a variety of potions that will be a great help in dire situations. Potions will cost gold but they can really be a life saver.
In addition, you can buy food in the shop. During missions, your heroes will need to eat or they will be starving. Food is scarce in these times, the exceptional circumstances have resulted in a serious shortage, so it is always a good idea to tap into other food sources on your missions.
The Training Hall
The Training Hall is one of the most important buildings. Here, your heroes can learn new skills and improve them over time, once they level up. Each hero class can learn a wide range of skills or spells that are invaluable during combat. What skills you invest into depends on your play style and type of party composition you are heading for.
It is beyond the scope of this post to dive more into skills but we will keep you posted.
The Armory
Your heroes usually come with a basic set of equipment. This will barely do against more powerful monsters that can potentially kill them in a single blow. The armory will offer a wide range of armor to protect your party members.
Most pieces of armor not only offer much needed protection but also grant magical bonuses. For some classes, this is even more important than the actual protection.

If money allows, be sure to buy your heroes better armor. This will increase their survivability and provide powerful magic bonuses.
The Strategy and Tactical Layer
The strategy and tactical layer are tightly interconnected. Your decisions on the strategy layer will determine how well you (and your party) are prepared for the upcoming challenges. Your actions on the tactical combat layer will in turn have an impact on what happens on the strategy layer.
Be sure to spend your gold wisely: you cannot buy everything and investing all your money into a single character then subsequently losing it will be a big setback. Investing into the “right” stuff, improving your teams and gradually overcoming the challenges you will be facing are important in order to prevail.
